Long Strap Hinges are found on many trunks, chests and boxes from the 16th century through 19th century. There is no set size or design as they were each hand made and not mass produced. Our Long Strap Reverse Pinned Hinges are a representation of the simple yet sturdy hinges made for centuries by countless smithies.
The Reverse Pinned Hinge is an inside out mount. The short leaf (6") mounts on the outside of the back panel and the Long (12") leaf mounts under the lid on the inside of a flat top chest or trunk. This Hinge was designed for a costumer making an early American style tool chest.
It measures 1 1/4" at the hinge pin with long straight edges reaching to a hammered oval end.
These hinges are sold as a set of two, forged from 11ga (1/8") steel and come with forged head nails and matching slotted flat head screws. Nails for the outside and screws for the inside.
Our hinges come in a choice of 6 finishes.
